Mission Scripture

"Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father; Ye shall have eternal life."

Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

Mormon Night at Semi-Pro Baseball Game in Lake Elsinore

I'm Not Dying Alone!!

August 11, 2014

Hey So I'll just cut straight to the news, the transfer goes as follows. Are you ready?? It's pretty cool. I think it's probably the coolest thing that could have happened this transfer. I'll be staying here in Menifee. Coming to join me this last transfer is my MTC buddy Elder H-- I couldn't believe it! I think it's so cool! They moved two sets of missionaries out of our ward, and now we cover two areas, because we're covering the other missionaries area now. So we got hooked up with a lot more investigators! So i'll tell you more about them next week.

There's a missionary term called "dying," and it basically refers to when you leave the mission. Because you die as a missionary so to speak. In that sense Elder H-- and I die together! I think it's a big comfort. I mean who wants to die alone? We actually requested it from our friend Elder Moss the AP, and with the approval of God, he made it happen. I think it will be cool to see how much we both have grown, and to teach together again! This time with real investigators.

This week we had a lot of cool things happen. We didn't have very many lessons though because we had a lot of meetings, and stuff. Tuesday we went to the temple. It was awesome!  And as always we ate Cafe Rio afterwards. I think Cafe Rio might have been on you guys! This week it was Mormon night at this semi-pro baseball team in Lake Elsinore. So we got the permission to go with our investigators, and we had promised him and his son two tickets, and they were ready to go with us. It was super fun!

The lesson of the week is that you can throw up crazy prayers, and God will listen. He sent me Elder H-- and President put us back to Zone Leaders so don't worry we won't be able to lose focus too much!

Love you!

Love,
Jordy :)

I gotta get used to my name this last transfer. So it's not so weird when I come home :)

Miracle of the Week

August 4, 2014

So we got one more week in the transfer, and then I'll be going into my last transfer. I might actually move one last time. During interviews President asked me if my companion would be ready to train, and I told him yes. So he might keep him in this area, and start to build up the mission using the younger missionaries. It's a good plan. I'm hoping to get put with My MTC comp. It would be cool to start and end the mish with him! But hey we'll find out on Saturday.

This week was pretty good. We spent quite a bit of time with H-- and M--.  M-- knows the Book of Mormon is true, and she reads the chapters we give her. She also tells us all the time she felt the spirit when we recited the 1st vision. She just doesn't quite grasp the priesthood yet.. But she doesn't deny baptism. She just wants to take her time. They weren't able to come to church this week so we stopped by afterwards to check on them, they had to leave somewhere early in the morning, but they promised us they would come next week. For sure!

We also visited the another investigator she is kind of depressed, but wouldn't do anything about it. We hadn't seen her for a few weeks, but on Saturday we decided we would go by and invite her one last time to church. It was actually about to start raining, and we always have lessons outside. So we a had a quick 10 minute lesson before it started to pour. It was definitely lead by the spirit though. We asked her how she had been. She told us depressed. Wow nothing changed! I asked her what her purpose was in life. She said she didn't have one. I asked her how she was going to find one if she was in the house all day. She said she didn't know. I told her that I thought God knew her purpose, after all He created the universe. I told her she would find purpose as she goes to church regularly, and we invited her once more. She gave some excuses. We said, "No excuses!" She eventually agreed to come. She needed to come. So we came an hour early on Sunday morning to help her get ready. She was already outside, but in her PJ's. She said she wasn't ready. We said, "Well, we got time. Go get ready!" And she did. Then she followed us to church and loved it. She already knew a lot of people there. She was neighbors with some of the members. So they were really excited to see her!

That was the miracle of the week!

We also had a bunch of fun playing soccer this morning. It was still super wet from all the rain. So we were sliding all over the place. It was super fun!

I'm Heading in the Right Direction

July 28, 2014

This week was actually kind of rough. We weren't able to teach as many lessons as we planned to. B--has been super busy and we weren't able to meet with her. We taught M--and H-- a few times. They are super cool. I don't know if I've mentioned them before, because we actually have two sets of M--and H--.  This set we found after another investigator told us that she thought they were members.  So we headed on over there to knock on their door. As we walked through the gate a small white dog bolted out of the yard and started running down the street. It totally reminded me of Dixie. Elder T-- ran after it and eventually caught it. I guess M-- noticed from the window that we let her dog out, and came outside. And I talked with her as my companion ran down the street. She is super cool. They didn't turn out to be members but we picked them up as investigators. They are progressing slowly. They haven't come to church yet though. We even stopped by Sunday morning, but they weren't able to come.  Once they come to church I know they will progress at double the rate. So we will focus on that this week.

We also had interviews with the new President. He's very cool. It was a very spiritual experience. I love to hear the testimonies of people that have truly consecrated their life to the church. I hope one day when I'm older I can look back and say the same thing about myself. I'm heading in the right direction!

Well, I sure love you! Tell the whole gang I say hello. I don't have too much time left to Email everyone. So tell everyone of my love for them.

Love,
Elder Higgins

We Have Many to Teach

July 21, 2014

I'm glad you enjoying a trip to Zion! Tell the whole crew I say, "What's up!" and tell them of my love for them!

Our week went very well. We found someone named B-- on a street called Monroe, and from there we have visited her and found a lot of other investigators on the same street that live around her. I think we are teaching 7 or so people that live on that one street. Hopefully a few of them will progress. B-- is very lonely and looking for her purpose in life. We've made her promises that if she reads the Book of Mormon and comes to church she'll find that purpose, but sadly she didn't come to church, and we'll see.... I really hope she'll progress because I think she would find a lot of joy serving in the church.

We ended the week with the baptism of M-- She was really excited and had a good time. She wanted me to baptize her so I got to do that. It was cool. I'll send the pictures here in a minute, but I forgot my spare under garments in my backpack and so when I went to change after baptizing her I realized I didn't have any dry ones. So I just dried them off the best I could, and went back out. It was super uncomfortable.

We are getting a lot more people to teach. So we should be seeing a lot of progress in the near future. I'm pretty excited! We taught a girl and her mom and we invited them to be baptized and they sad yes without hesitation. They said they need religion in their life. They'll do good to accept the true one!

I love you Mom! Thanks for your wonderful testimony. It has a powerful effect on children to know that their parents know and have faith in so many good and true things. So thanks!

Who Do You know That Could Use a Message About Jesus Christ?

July 14, 2014

Hola!

Well, my week went well. It's getting real hot and I have flashback's to when I was in MoVal in this heat a year ago riding my bike. I'm thankful I get to spend this summer in a car! We have just been visiting former investigators, and talking to everyone we see. We really need more people to teach! Our new President has asked us to ask everyone, "Who do you know that could use a message about Jesus Christ?" So we have been doing that, and we have had quite a few responses. A few days ago we got a referral from some random people to go and visit their uncle who drinks a lot. They didn't have the full address, but pointed us in the right direction. We found what we thought was the house and knocked on the door. We ended up getting the wrong house, but a lady answered the door. We had a conversation with her, and learned about her life. She has no family left, lost her husband a while ago. She said when she was younger she went to the LDS church for five years with her friends, but was never baptized. So we invited her to return, and I think she'll do it. She didn't come yesterday cause she had prior commitments, but we have an appointment with her tomorrow.

We also started teaching Another investigator and M-- is all lined up to be baptized this Sunday. She went camping with her dad this weekend, but is all ready to go this next weekend. So we are pretty pumped about that!

That's pretty much my week in review. I'm fighting to finish strong! It's so crazy being around Elder B-- my previous companion who goes home in just a few weeks. That will be weird to see.

Well, I love you lots!
